Where are you based?

The Content Engine is a 100% remote company. Our headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland, and the majority of our colleagues are based in the UK. We have colleagues all over the world, including South Africa and Australia. Work is 100% remote, and we provide our people with the equipment to do their work.

Will I ever meet my colleagues in real life?!

That depends on where you live. We gather in small clusters when enough of us are nearby, and have regular touchpoints when we’re at home to help us connect. Virtual coffee anyone?

What are your office hours?

Office hours are 8am to 5pm GMT/BST (9am to 6pm CET). We are flexible with these hours, providing everyone is available for the six core hours each day.

We offer part time contracts which can be worked either over fewer days in a week or shorter work hours each day. We’re always on the lookout for freelancers (if you really want to keep your own time), so if you’re a talented writer, designer or producer, get in touch!

What does a typical day at The Content Engine look like?

Busy, challenging and engaging!

We aim to strike a balance between connecting with colleagues, customers and peers through virtual meetings, digital communication channels and virtual coffee - as well as leave time for deep work. We use Slack as our main work interaction channel, and WhatsApp for informal and urgent messaging.

There is a daily all staff meeting at 8.45am GMT/BST that everyone is expected to attend. Otherwise, your time is your own to manage.

What does your recruitment process look like?

Our process will vary according to the role, but will usually consist of:

  • An initial screening process - we’ll be looking at your CV, but we’re also really interested in your answers to our questions.

  • Phone interview - a short, informal conversation to give you more information on the role, learn more about you, and make sure our expectations are aligned.

  • Practical exercise (for editorial roles) - a written exercise, usually taking no more than 1 hour of your time.

  • Interview(s) - opportunities to meet with the people that you would be working with in this role. Currently we conduct all interviews remotely.

How can I prepare for an interview with The Content Engine?

The aim of our interview process is for both of us to find out more about each other, hopefully in a friendly and non-intimidating way! We ask questions about your past experience, and look for you to bring examples of achievements and failures from which you have learned.

What tools and technology does the team typically use, and will I receive training on them?

We use Slack, the Google Suite and of course, our Engine. While you will receive training for the Engine, we expect a certain familiarity with the other platforms.

Our visual and video team, and our data and analytics team use industry-specific platforms and tools. Having an understanding of these is essential, but if you are concerned about your capability, flag it to us during the interview process.

Can we access The Engine without working with the team?

Sadly not, we’re a package deal.

How can we integrate our own systems with The Engine?

Your organisation's social media accounts can be connected with The Engine for easy publication and more in-depth data and analytics.

We also personalise your Engine depending on whether you prefer to use Google or Microsoft 365 to make things easier for your team.
